In the search for her own purpose for living, Teresa discovered that she was already doing the thing that God had called her to do. She states that “Because it was not what I thought it would be or because it did not look like what I thought it should, I did not recognize it when it came.” While experiencing my own brokenness, I kept being put into positions to “lead”. Helping others to overcome their issues and plights is what ultimately saved me from mine! It shifted the focus from what I was going through to helping others to overcome. In this book, Teresa describes a heart that is yearning for the love of her husband. After having endured various levels of physical, verbal, sexual, and emotional abuse, she has learned how to want the man that God wants for her. Lust is not love! We fall in love with people for all the wrong reasons. They may be fine, but what does his or her prayer life look like? Can they pray you through some things? Stop asking God for the same qualities in the new man that the old man had. God does not work like that. He’s not going to give you a new thing with old stuff attached to it, so then we have to be transformed by the renewing of our minds so that we can stop desiring that old stuff! Just like you’ve desired things from God for your husband, there are things that he is asking God for concerning you. I am crazy enough to believe that God will become IN MY HUSBAND all that I need, and He will become IN ME, all that my husband needs. Wait on the Lord!
